AI Business Tools: The AI Layer Gap Between GoHighLevel, Kartra, and Systeme.io
82% of small business employers have already invested in AI tools. The typical small business now runs a median of five of them, with marketing as the single most common use case, according to the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council’s 2026 Small Business Tech Use Survey. Most “AI tools for business” roundups respond to that shift by listing 15 to 19 tools across every function at once, ChatGPT next to Canva next to a CRM. AI ends up as one checkbox among many, instead of something worth examining closely inside the platforms that actually run a solopreneur’s funnels and client relationships.

I’ve run real client work through both GoHighLevel and Systeme.io, and the AI feature question comes up constantly when solopreneurs compare CRM and funnel platforms. This hub covers what “AI” actually means, and actually costs, inside GoHighLevel, Kartra, and Systeme.io, checked directly against each platform’s own pricing page rather than recycled from a stale comparison post.
Key Takeaways
- GoHighLevel ($97/$297/$497 per month) bundles AI across its core plans but charges usage-based fees on top, plus a separate AI Employee add-on at $50-97/month per sub-account
- Kartra ($59-$549/month) bundles “Kartra AI” into every paid plan but hard-caps it at 30, 100, or 250 uses depending on tier
- Systeme.io ($0/$17/$47/$97/month) has no AI features at all as of this writing, which is part of why it stays the cheapest option in this category
- 82% of small business employers have invested in AI tools, using a median of 5, with marketing as the #1 use case (SBE Council, 2026)
What Do AI Tools for Business Actually Mean in 2026?
Every CRM, funnel builder, and marketing-automation platform now advertises AI somewhere on its pricing page. What that word means in practice varies enormously. None of the top-ranking “AI tools for business” articles dig into the difference. They’re built as broad, function-agnostic lists. Searches for “ai marketing tools” turn up the same problem: SEO tools, content generators, and ad platforms treated as one undifferentiated pile, with CRM and funnel platforms getting a single bullet point instead of the focused look they get here.
Look at three platforms in the same price band side by side, GoHighLevel, Kartra, and Systeme.io, and a real split shows up. I’m calling it the AI Layer Gap: one platform meters AI usage on top of a paid add-on, one caps it at a fixed monthly quota bundled into your plan, and one hasn’t built an AI layer at all. That’s three fundamentally different bets on where AI belongs in a pricing model, not three flavors of the same feature.
The AI Layer Gap: GoHighLevel vs. Kartra vs. Systeme.io
Pricing and AI-feature details below were checked directly against each vendor’s own pricing page on 2026-07-04, not pulled from a comparison roundup.
GoHighLevel
$97 / $297 / $497 per month
Conversation AI, Voice AI, Content AI, Funnel AI, and Reviews AI ship across core plans, but usage-based charges apply on top. A dedicated AI Employee add-on costs $50/mo (Growth) or $97/mo (Unlimited), billed per sub-account.
Kartra
$59 – $549 per month
“Kartra AI” is bundled into every paid tier for page, email, and SMS copy generation, but it’s hard-capped: 30 uses (Essentials), 100 (Starter), 250 (Growth, plus unlimited languages). Included, not metered, but still a quota.
Systeme.io
$0 / $17 / $47 / $97 per month
No AI features found on the pricing page as of this writing. Systeme.io stays the cheapest platform here in part because it hasn’t built an AI layer, metered or otherwise, into any plan yet.
Neither GoHighLevel nor Systeme.io billed me for anything AI-related that I didn’t explicitly turn on, but GoHighLevel is the one where it’s easy to add a feature (the AI Employee, specifically) without immediately seeing the per-sub-account cost multiply if you’re running client accounts. That’s covered in more depth in my full GoHighLevel review and Systeme.io review.
Which Platform Fits Which Stage
The right answer here depends on whether you actually need the AI layer yet, not on which platform has the most AI features listed.
- Running lean, no AI automation needed yet: Systeme.io. At $0-97/month with zero AI tax, it’s the platform to start on if you’re not yet automating client conversations or content generation.
- Managing client sub-accounts, want AI phone/chat automation: GoHighLevel. The AI Employee add-on math ($50-97/mo per sub-account, plus usage-based core AI charges) needs to be run against how many client accounts you’re actually managing before it pencils out.
- Building courses or communities, want AI copy without add-on shopping: Kartra. The 30-250 monthly use cap is a real ceiling, but it’s bundled in rather than a separate purchase decision.
A dedicated Kartra review isn’t live on this site yet, so treat the Kartra entry above as pricing-page-verified but not yet stress-tested the way GoHighLevel and Systeme.io have been in their full reviews. That review is in production (Coming Soon card below).
What’s in the Business Library?
Three reviews are live in this library today, with a fourth, Kartra, in production. The GoHighLevel review covers whether it’s worth it for solopreneurs running client sub-accounts. The Systeme.io review covers the all-in-one platform for creators who don’t need GoHighLevel’s agency-scale features. The Systeme.io affiliate program review looks at the 60% lifetime-recurring program from the promoter’s side, not the user’s.
These platforms rarely run alone. Most of them sit on top of the automations covered in the Automation sub-pillar, and consultants managing client accounts on any of these platforms will find more context in AI Tools for Project Managers and Professionals.
Who Is This Business Hub For?
This hub covers CRM, funnel, and marketing-automation platforms for solopreneurs, creators, and consultants deciding whether a platform’s AI layer is worth paying for at their current stage, not just which platform has the longest feature list. Is GoHighLevel’s AI actually free, or does it cost extra?
Neither, exactly. Conversation AI, Voice AI, Content AI, Funnel AI, and Reviews AI ship across GoHighLevel’s core plans, but usage-based charges apply on top of your monthly fee. If you want a dedicated AI Employee handling calls and chats, that’s a separate add-on at $50/month on the Growth plan or $97/month on the Unlimited plan, billed per sub-account.
Does Systeme.io have any AI features?
No, not as of this writing. Systeme.io’s pricing page makes no mention of AI writing, funnel, or conversation tools across any of its four plans. That’s arguably not a gap for a lean solo operator: it’s also the reason Systeme.io stays the cheapest platform in this comparison.
Is Kartra’s AI actually unlimited?
No. Kartra AI is bundled into every paid plan, but it’s hard-capped by a monthly use quota: 30 uses on Essentials, 100 on Starter, and 250 on Growth. It’s included rather than metered like GoHighLevel’s, but it’s still a quota, not an unlimited feature.
